About Us

What is Bëtá Nigeria?

Bëtá Nigeria is a campaign that aims to make education a top priority for all citizens of Nigeria. Our goal is to ensure that every child in this country – rich or poor, boy or girl, whether they live in a village or a big city – is in school. We work with politicians, education officials, teachers, parents and communities, civil society organisations  and the media to make sure children are enrolled in school, stay in school and receive a good quality education.

Who can join Bëtá Nigeria?

Bëtá Nigeria welcomes parents, citizens, civil society organisations, research institutions, businesses, journalists and media houses – indeed, we welcome anyone who believes in the importance of improving education enrolment and outcomes in Nigeria.

What resources does Bëtá Nigeria provide to its members?

Bëtá Nigeria provides members with access to campaign materials, networking opportunities, and capacity-building resources to support their advocacy and campaign efforts. It coordinates, strengthens and amplifies the work of its members, to increase the reach and impact of its campaigning.

Who funds the Bëtá Nigeria campaign?

Bëtá Nigeria is a Nigerian campaign funded by the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). It is run by Nigerians, for Nigerians. We have many supporters abroad and at home, including across the political spectrum in Nigeria.

Why does the UK want to fund an education campaign in Nigeria?

Nigeria is one of the FCDO’s largest bilateral programmes of support and education is the cornerstone of the FCDO programme in Nigeria. FCDO supports similar programmes in a number of nations including Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It does so because the UK is committed to international development through a range of international and multilateral agreements.

What is Bëtá Nigeria’s relationship with the Nigeria government?

Bëtá Nigeria encourages all efforts to ensure that education is a national priority for Nigeria. This includes supporting the government’s work to improve education. Bëtá Nigeria aims to work with local, state and federal governments.

When did the campaign start and when will it end?

Our campaign was launched in early 2024 and will run until 2027. But the movement to bring quality education to all of Nigeria’s children will not end until every child is in school.

What are Bëtá Nigeria’s objectives?

Bëtá Nigeria has three objectives:

  • To make sure that every Nigerian child is in school

  • To make sure that the children who are in school do not drop out

  • To make sure that every child receives a good quality education.

Is Bëtá Nigeria an NGO?

Bëtá Nigeria is not an NGO; it is a network. But it works with NGOs, as well as policy and research organisations, across Nigeria to improve the state of education in the country. Our partners include many of the country’s most reputable civil society organisations and research institutes.

Can Bëtá Nigeria help raise awareness about our problems by getting the media involved?

Yes, we can. Tell us your stories and we will help bring them to the attention of the media. You can write to us directly at info@betanigeria.ng

Our network of partners can help you get in touch with elected representatives in your area. We are also in regular contact with local school management committees and education department officials.
